Sketchbook Confusion over areas of concentration May,2012

So I have noticed there a few different areas one could be studying for, be it Concept Art, Industrial Design, Illustration etc

Industrial design is heavy on perspective study. I have been going through these http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=116213 and having a lot of fun.

Illustration would be closer to a fine arts background maybe?

I am just trying work out which areas would one concentrate on for the stuff I am aiming for. This would be one half lighting and shot design and colour scripts like the stuff Nathan Folkes and Lou Romano do. And the other half would be characters for animation like the characters in the Art of Pixar books. Im not really sure what this area (mainly the first one) is classed as. Is it production painting? Illustration? Its not quite concept design (is it?). What are the big things to concentrate on here?

Obviously a lot of the stuff is the same and crosses over and it isn't clear cut and of course I still need to study perspective and gesture. Colour theory would be a big one for the colour scripts but I am not ready for that yet.

Apart from the obvious of course being lots of life drawing and loomis.

What are your thoughts? I am not even sure if this is a coherent question.

Its just that Im doing a lot of stuff for industrial design and don't want to push myself to far with it if it isn't relevant.
