Sketchbook Underwater Lighting June,2012

Ok so I'm trying for this weeks Character of the week competition; however with lighting and colour being my biggest weak spot by a fair bit, and making this image with several light sources and as well as underwater I think I may have bitten off more than I can chew with this one and so I'd love some advice and general knowledge about colours and light for this image.

I started off with this:

And after cleaning up the linework I jumped straight into doing multiply layers to try shading and added a bit of colour. Resulting in this:

This didn't feel right for some reason however and so after looking up examples such as Jace Wallaces work on:

I decided to try going back, just splashing colour on the canvas to try getting a working colour scheme.

I've tried keeping the background rather dark as it's a depiction of a burlesque dancer, adding some cyan and blue to lighten up areas. An orange light to the right ot contrast how cool the image is and some more colourful decorations on the dancer herself. However the idea of the glowing crown is throwing me off, I think adding any kind of colour on there will either swing away from a sultry character or sway the colours too far one way or another.

I'm having trouble wrapping my head around it so any advice would be great :)
